Jamie storms to victory in County Final.

Having qualified comfortably for the knockout stages through the 36 hole medal on Wednesday, Jamie won both his matches on Thursday to progress to the quarter final.

There he played Kieran Faulkner, leading qualifier in the medal, and fellow county player., it was a hard fought battle with Jamie winning eventually at the 21st hole.

He then played Truro player Alec Penrose in another close encounter, winning on the final hole 1 up.

Jamie had to now face Richard Ackland in the 36 hole final on Saturday.  Jamie raced away to a good start being 5 up after 6 holes, with some excellent golf, but also helped by his opponent showing some nerves.  Jamie continued to play good golf throughout the morning round, being 6 up, but it could have been more with the level of golf he was playing.

The second round started with some Jamie's many supporters wondering if he could keep up his momentum from the first round, and would his opponent fight back.  However, Jamie continued were he left off, winning the first 2 holes of the afternoon to go 8 up.  This surely meant that the championship was there for the taking.

Being 9 up with 10 to play, the Mullion supporters were anxiously waiting for Jamie to cross the finishing line. On the 9th Jamie put his tee shot to about 10 feet and with his opponent in the front bunker, this was the moment we had all been waiting for.  Richard Ackland made an excellent up and down to show his battling qualities, to ensure that Jamie needed to hole his putt to secure victory.  Although he hit a very good put it just slipped by the hole to continue the match.  9 up with 9 to play.

Jamie lost the next hole to a par, was the nerves starting to effect him?  A fine birdie by Richard at the 11th saw the match continue down the 12th.

Both players missed the green with their second shots, but were on the fringe, Jamie fractionally short of the green, had a tricky put across the undulating green and he putted to within inches for the par to be conceded.  Richard therefore needed to hole his putt as he had on the previous hole to continue the match.  He missed the putt, meaning Jamie was County  Champion.
